Can the Military Diet REALLY help you lose 10lbs in 3 days??

If you’ve never heard of the Military Diet, it’s basically a VERY aggressive, VERY low calorie diet that only lasts 3 days
Immediately I see why this is appealing to a lot of people, 3 days sounds like a breeze, right?
There’s also a scoop of ice cream that you get to have every evening after dinner.
I’ve plugged the diet into myfitnesspal to have a rough idea of how many calories you’d be consuming per day on this and I was honestly shocked.
It’s 818 calories on day 1, 1,013 calories on day 2, and 908 calories on day 3.
That’s not only a massive deficit, but the food volume is extremely low, and so is the amount of carbs you’d be consuming per day.
So the 10lbs you’re losing in 3 days is going to be *mostly* water weight, and maybe 1-2lbs of fat.
So yeah technically, the Military Diet DOES help you lose 10lbs in 3 days, but it’s 10lbs of mostly water that you’ll gain right back afterwards.
And the psychopaths amongst you might be thinking…
What if I just keep eating this way for longer than 3 days?
Well, you probably won’t be able to stick to this diet for very long.
It’s extremely restrictive, repetitive, and boring, and your cravings will be THROUGH THE ROOF
Also, you’d be deficient in almost every vitamin and mineral that your body needs
Your gut health would suffer due to the lack of variety
AND you’ll have literally ZERO energy due to the sheer lack of calories in this diet
I’m also VERY annoyed at the claims made on the website
It claims that certain foods in this diet, namely the grapefruit, is meant to increase your metabolism
Now, this is simply a load of fucking bullshit.
There is a grand total of ZERO foods out there that can increase your metabolism.
If you build muscle over a few years, yeah that can increase your metabolism by a couple hundred
But if you want to be able to burn more calories quicker, simply add 3-5k steps per day to your step count.
You can tell I’m pretty passionate about how much I hate this diet
It’s because I used to do it MYSELF when I was in high school
Yup, at the tender age of 15-16 years old
I followed a vegan version of this stupid diet
It was so terrible
I remember just laying on my bed between meals salivating at the idea of more food
It was only 3 days but it was so hard and I was literally starving
And my stupid little ass never learned my lesson so I had attempted it quite a few times
And shocker - it never fucking worked
Because any weight I did lose, I’d put straight back on
If there’s ONE thing I actually DO like about this diet…
It’s the scoop of ice cream.
It just goes to show that you CAN eat nice foods and lose weight
But you really shouldn’t be restricting yourself to less than 1000 calories per day
It’s not sustainable AND it’s unhealthy
You see, the ONE thing all these fad diets have in common is calorie restriction
Which IS necessary to lose body fat
But there are MANY ways in which calorie restriction can be done SUSTAINABLY
The main thing you need to accept is that it is going to take MONTHS to get the results you want, not days or weeks
A healthy amount of weight to lose on a weekly basis is about 1% per week
If you’re a 150lb-female, that’s 1.5lbs per week, which doesn’t sound as sexy and losing 10lbs in 3 days I know
But if you follow a plan that doesn’t even FEEL like a diet, you’ll be down 15lbs in 10 weeks
30lbs down in 6 months
It’s a matter of consistency in the long term

But if you wanna get started on your own, here are my top 3 tips:
Track your calories, your steps and your body weight daily. After the first couple of weeks, if bodyweight isn’t coming down, decrease the calories you’re eating and increase your step count
Eat a high protein diet - 1g per lb of lean body weight
Follow the 80/20 rule
