Ex-math teacher Deborah Tipton told a federal judge Wednesday she's guilty of videotaping the genitals of a 12-year-old girl. In the plea deal, prosecutors dropped one of three charges she was facing. "It's just not right for teachers to do that to kids," said Laura Henry of Asheville.Tipton taught at Mountain Community School in Henderson County. She lost that position in February when cops learned of her illicit acts. Tipton's lawyer, Jack Stewart, tells me the whole ordeal has been tough on his client. Following the hearing, Stewart declined an on camera interview about the case.Court documents spell out in graphic detail how Tipton videoed the girl as she showered, then sent the images to former Brevard High assistant principal Chad Hamby. "I think it's unconscionable that they do that to a child," said Nancy Whitek. The horrific crimes happened in Tipton's own home. As a result, the government will seize the property. Sentencing is delayed until federal probation officers can conduct a pre-sentence investigation. Tipton could spend two decades in prison and face a 50,000 fine. When she's released, she'll have to register as a sex offender. Tipton also still faces state charges in Henderson County related to this case. Hamby pleaded guilty in federal court in July.By: Mario Boone, mlboone@wlos.comFollow Mario on Twitter @MarioBooneRelated Links:Former Principal Jailed
