EBUS (Endobronchial Ultrasound) is an advanced Bronchoscopy procedure, which is a minimally invasive procedure and used to diagnose different types of lung disorders, including inflammation, infections or cancer.
Usually in simple bronchoscope only camera is present along with other apparatus (optical alligator grasping forceps) but in EBUS, along with camera along with other apparatus, ultrasound probe is also attached, which helps in the precise diagnosis and evaluation of the lymph node stations. The main use of EBUS is to diagnose mediastinal lymphadenopathy. While EBUS procedure, if a Lymph node is found greater than 1 cm, a biopsy forceps/needle is passed into the node to collect the sample for biopsy.
