Can earthquakes be predicted? Despite vast amounts of research into the area, no conclusive evidence has emerged. But National Taiwan University Professor Chu Tzu-how has discovered abnormal ultra low frequency electromagnetic waves which occur before an earthquake. He believes that detection of these electromagnetic waves can be used to effectively predict earthquakes. At the moment, Chu has successfully detected signals which have been 80 percent effective in predicting earthquakes. Unfortunately, the maximum range for accuracy is no more than 100 kilometers. Nonetheless, these findings have inspired his research team to have confidence that this information can be used to develop a reliable and accurate earthquake prediction model.
