In this video, Mr. Cellini reviews the entire CRQ section from the June 2023 Regents Exam in Global History and Geography.
CRQ Set 1:
The first document is a drawing that illustrates how children were working in the coal mines of Britain in the 19th century. The accompanying question requires students to explain the historical context of the developments shown in this image.
The second document is an excerpt from a piece called Child Labour written by Emma Griffin in 2014. In the source, Griffin describes various means by which the British government took steps to improve the lives of its children by the late 19th century. The student is asked to explain the purpose for the Elementary Education Act of 1880, which can easily be inferred using the evidence found in the source.
The third question in this first CRQ set has the students identify and explain a cause and effect relationship between the documents. Students should be able to cite how Parliamentary action spearheaded by Michael Sadler helped usher in new reforms to get children out of the coal mines and into schools.
CRQ Set 2:
In the second CRQ set, Document 1 is a publication from the World Bank in 2019 that describes its goals and how it attempts to achieve them. Students are asked to explain the historical circumstances that led to the establishment of the World Bank.
The second document is a primary source from Muhammad Yunus, who founded Grameen Bank of Bangladesh in 1983. In this source, Yunus argues for the need to provide loans to the severely impoverished so that they may have a chance to better themselves.
The third question in this CRQ set asks students to identify how the work of the World Bank and of the Grameen Bank are similar OR different and then explain using evidence from both documents. I believe the most simply approach is to focus on how the institutions are similar in that they provide loans to people in need.
