The ossuary in Sedlec, the lower town district of Kutná Hora in Bohemia and less than 75 km / 45 miles from Prague, is an eerie place full of skulls and bones and also known as the "bone church". The skeletons of an estimated number of more than 40,000 people are gathered in the crypt of a small Gothic chapel, many of them used for decoration purposes revealing a macabre sense of humour. It seems to be more like a danse macabre, and the Baroque idea of ​​"all is vanity" is palpable here. The ossuary attracts more than 200,000 visitors per year. In the year 1970, Jan Švankmajer made a documentary film about it, called "Kostnice".
