Werdenberg village and its castle is located in the municipality of Buchs, St Gallen in Switzerland. The castle is from the late middle ages with its tower, palace and courtyard which was founded about 1230 A.D. by Count Rudolf the first of Montfort. Today, the castle and surrounding medieval complex is a Swiss heritage site. The walk from the lake is pleasant as you make your way up through the medieval village towards the castle.
Werdenberg has an 800 year history and is definitely enchanting place to visit. It will take you back in time as you stroll along the old, medieval cobbled streets of the village surrounded with the well preserved timber houses. The antique architecture is so unique. A few minutes hike in the Werdenberg castle (Schloss) gives a picturesque, panoramic view of the surrounding areas. The views of the Werdenberg lake and surrounding Swiss Alps are unbeatable. The grapevines on the slope add immensely to the beauty of the castle grounds. Definitely worth a visit if you are near the border of Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
