I interviewed this dog meat seller. Afterwards I would have wanted to ask so much more, but the circumstances made me nervous and the stench of blood and death made me nauseous.
.
Bottom line is these people make a lot of money of the illegal dog meat trade. But it’s still not illegal to eat dogs, although local communities and churches are starting to condemn this more openly.
.
I asked the question about religion, because most people here feel a strong bond with God and wouldn’t want to jeopardize that relation and their spot in heaven. So shouldn’t they be protecting, respecting, loving and nourishing Gods creations instead of breaking their spirits, eating their flesh and needlessly holding on to these cruel traditions? Can you truly believe in God and carry out the work of the devil?
.
It breaks my heart and I feel so frustrated and confused. I hope things will finally change. Apparently they still believe animal cruelty is good for business..
.
In general North-Sulawesians are the most friendly and honest people I’ve met in my life. And most of them want this to change too.
.
I was able to save one dog.. and was asked to pay 500.000 for his life. That’s 30 euro’s and about 4 days salary. The hard part is that with buying these dogs we are actually making these dog meat sellers rich. So I hope these posts reach far enough and all the work, organizations like Animal Friends Manado and Dogmeatfree Indonesia
