The diastema is the space located between two teeth that should normally touch. Most diastemas are not too awkward. Nonetheless, this type of imperfection can affect the gums nearby because of the friction brought about when chewing food. For certain people, from an aesthetic point of view, a diastema is disturbing. If this is your case, there are several ways to make up for it. First, resin can be indicated in cases of minor modifications. Your dentist can apply it himself. This technique has the advantage of being inexpensive and interesting since the work is done right in front of you. The result, however, is only stable for a short period. The crown is also a solution to be considered. This alternative may be good, but it is not very conservative. For this reason, it is often suggested in cases where there are other major defects difficult to hide in other ways, such as the shape, an abnormal colour or even a decay having destroyed a major part of the tooth. The addition of a porcelain veneer is adequate when there are major aesthetic defects to conceal. This completely covers the visible part of the tooth. If the teeth look healthy but are badly positioned, orthodontics may be a solution. It is less aggressive for the teeth and more durable. A dentist could evaluate your case and inform you of the possibility of undergoing treatment.
