The Spice Girls, an iconic English girl group formed in 1994, redefined pop culture and the girl-group concept with their "girl power" mantra. Comprising Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), they led the '90s teen pop resurgence and became symbols of the Cool Britannia era.

Initially brought together by Heart Management to counter the popularity of British boy bands, the Spice Girls enlisted Simon Fuller as their manager and signed with Virgin Records. Their debut single, "Wannabe" (1996), conquered charts in 37 countries, setting the stage for their first album, "Spice" (1996), which sold over 23 million copies worldwide. The album produced hits like "Say You'll Be There," "2 Become 1," and "Who Do You Think You Are"/"Mama." Their second album, "Spiceworld" (1997), with singles such as "Spice Up Your Life," "Too Much," and "Viva Forever," solidified their dance-pop style and female empowerment message.

The Spice Girls made history with the Spiceworld Tour (1998), becoming the highest-grossing concert tour by a female group. Despite Halliwell's departure during the tour, hits like "Goodbye" (1998) and "Holler"/"Let Love Lead the Way" (2000) kept the group's momentum. A hiatus in 2000 allowed members to explore solo careers. They later regrouped for the Return of the Spice Girls Tour (2007–2008) and Spice World – 2019 Tour, both highly successful.

With record sales of 105 million worldwide, the Spice Girls hold the title of the best-selling girl group in history and one of the most successful British acts ever. Their accolades include Brit Awards, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, and more. Notably, they received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, becoming the youngest recipients. The Spice Girls' influence extended beyond music, with their Union Jack dress and media-given nicknames becoming cultural symbols. Their endorsement deals and merchandise contributed to an estimated global income of $500–800 million by 1998.
