"I say to those who claim to defend democracy, what kind of democrats are you? What kind of democracy is this? If you are democrats, if you believe in democracy, then why aren't you speaking up about these death penalties? Capital punishment is forbidden in the European Union. If capital punishment is forbidden in the European Union, then, hey, European Union member states, why don't you speak up? Why don't you say something?"

STORYLINE:
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday criticised the European Union and its leaders for not reacting to the death penalty verdict passed by and Egyptian court on former president Mohammed Morsi.
Speaking on a visit to the Bosnian capital Sarajevo, Erdogan mocked the EU, saying it claimed to defend democracy and yet stood by while the sentence was passed in Egypt.
Erdogan arrived in Sarajevo on Wednesday with a large delegation of ministers and businessmen who signed several deals aimed at increasing economic cooperation between the two countries.
