« ADESPOTA, Stray Dogs in the Heart of Athens », is a 52 minutes documentary film, directed by Ilya Chorafas and produced by Georges Corraface, about the freedom inspired by these animals that roam the streets of Athens.
In production since 2009, this film shows how the animal welfare situation reflects Greece's economic crisis, while volunteers struggle to finance their activities to help the stray animals.
Synopsis: In 2004, the city council of Athens had the streets cleaned of the strays to host the Olympic Games. Many never came back. Since then, an animal protection program has been running on public funds and european subventions. The present financial crisis, the backdrop of street violence, outrage, and public demonstration ironically dramatizes the symbol of freedom represented by the dogs without masters who wear collars, but no leashes, and are to be found in the forefront of all the marches.
