STORYLINE
The state fair of Texas offers a wide range of fried food that includes fried cookie dough, fried butter or even fried caviar.
But the food clogging more arteries than any other this year was invented by Mark Zable.
Deep-fried beer pockets, made from pretzel dough, were attracting mixed reviews on Monday.
The delicacies are fried in boiling oil for 20 seconds, just long enough to retain their alcoholic potency.
Some couldn't stand the taste, opting for a corn dog instead. But there were plenty others who went back for second helpings.
Zable said he was already thinking about next year's fried invention - although he's not sharing his idea just yet.
