Liftoff of a Northrop Grumman Antares 230+ rocket about an hour ago at 12:36 EST (local time) / 17:36 UTC from Launch Pad 0A (LP-0A) at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Space Port on Wallops Island in Virginia.
The two-stage, medium-lift launch vehicle carried the "S.S. Katherine Johnson" Cygnus space freighter into low Earth orbit and toward the International Space Station (ISS), where the spacecraft will arrive on Monday, Feb. 22, 2021.
The freighter carries over 3,800 kg of crew supplies, spacewalk equipment, science investigations, vehicle hardware and other cargo to the orbiting laboratory.
The S.S. Katherine Johnson is named after the NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, who played a major role in NASA's early human spaceflight program. Her hand-written calculations were critical to the success of the first crewed missions of the US.
This flight was the 15th resupply flight of the Cygnus vehicle and the fourth Cygnus launch under NASA's CRS-2 contract.
