Japanese and US Marines held their first airborne landing and combat training together on Tuesday near Mt. Fuji.
400 Japanese troops and 600 US Marines based on Japan’s southern island of Okinawa jointly practiced landing and combat operations in a scenario of an enemy invasion of a remote Japanese island.
US Navy’s Tilt-rotor Ospreys, amphibious armored vehicles and artilleries such as M777 were used in the joint drills.
Japan is revising its decade old national security strategy which is expected to call for the country to take a more active role alongside Washington in regional security.
Led by its ex-PM Shinzo Abe, Japan’s ruling parting is also seeking “Nuclear Sharing” with the US which is strongly condemned by China.
