Today’s #TopTip comes from #ghostwriter Christopher Lomas.
Read other people’s stories
If you are a budding ghostwriter for autobiographical work, Christopher says the best thing to do is read a lot of other autobiographies and memoirs and life stories and learn what you can from them.
He says: "Look at people you admire and who you are interested in, and see how they have written their own stories or rather how the ghostwriter has written their story for them. You’ll soon pick up lots of stylistic tips in terms of the structure they use, the way they make the narrative work, the various devices they employ.”
He also advocates reading a lot of fiction, because he says "even as non-fiction writers, ghostwriters of autobiographies will use a lot of fictional devices to make stories seemingly ‘leap of the page’. So whether that is from books or TV or Films or whatever it might be look at characters journeys and how they are presented because you can learn so much from that."
Top advice Christopher!
