Here's an odd historic fact for you. The entire population of Nauru was nearly moved to an island off Australia. The Nauruans refused to go as they did not want to be assimilated into White Australia and lose their distinctive identity. Now, of course, Australia is using Nauru as a country of resettlement for refugees who sought to reach Australia by boat and have been denied the opportunity to settle in Australia.
