An official 2019 Brian May Guitar...I took the stock BMG pickups out, and put in a set of Dimarzio DP206 Brian May Pickups. I believe the Dimarzio Brian May pickups were first released in 1984. They were special made to go in the Guild Brian May Red Special guitar that was sold between 1984-1986. If you pay close attention to the guitar he is playing, you will see Brian May play one in the Queen video of "One Vision." If you pay extra attention, you'll see the one and only original Red Special on a guitar rack in the background of several shots. Pay close attention to the pickups in the guitar Brian is playing!!! ;O)
While Dr. May went on to have another brand make the pickups for the 90's Guild guitars...Dimarzio went ahead and sold the DP206's for several years yet. They stand out quite different from the common Burns Tri-Sonics Brian always used. The Dimarzio pickups where the common single coil shape, like those on a fender stratocaster. Also, the resistance on these pickups are a bit higher than any Burns I've ever seen. So, in other words, you can say they are a bit "hotter" than any other Brian May pickups that have been produced over the years.
Sadly, Dimarzio ceased production on the Brian May DP206's sometime during the late 1990's - early 2000's. However, information concerning the pickups are still up on their website.
Personally, I really like these. They are special to me because I got them with my dad back in the mid 90's. They are definitely hotter than any tri-sonic i've played. More crisp. More clear. They have a reputation of squealing, and being a bit micro-phonic, but I don't think it's that bad. You can find more information on 'em on Google.
I'm really thankful to have these. They were the first pickups I ever bought.
