A baby who is just born will have their stool colors which are dark green to black in color and this is commonly referred to as meconium.. nnUsually babies pass meconium in their first week of life and gradually with the introduction of the feeds, these stools change color to light green and then to dirty yellow and then to yellow.. nnAny baby who is been well fed and breast fed will pass on an average up to six stools per day which is still within the normal limits. A baby who is formula fed will pass stools once in a day to once in six days. This is a big spectrum and this is within the normal limits.. nnThe stool consistency in a baby who is breast fed is always loose as supposed to slightly harder consistencies when the baby is on formula feed..
