In a decade, he created about 2,100 works of art, including 860 oil paintings -most of which date from the last two years of his life. Vincent was not commercially successful during his lifetime. However, it was the championing of his brother and his sister-in-law Johanna after their respective deaths publishing Van Gogh's letters that would reach worldwide fame. Vincent's works are among the world's most expensive paintings in the world, many sold for over US$100 Million (inflation-adjusted). The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam regularly receives millions of visitors annually. Van Gogh is considered one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of art.
