*** Correction - words searched for are “Do not be deceived” AND “Let no one deceive you” (ESV).
Since it is a command that we are to let no one deceive us, let us be diligent to see what the Scriptures say about who it is who is doing the deceiving so that do not fall into their trap and are are not deceived ourselves.
The verses are as follows:
1 Corinthians 6:9
1 Corinthians 15:33
Galatians 6:7
Ephesians 5:6
James 1:16
1 John 3:7
2 Thessalonians 2:3
1 Corinthians 3:18
As we go through these verses, please ask yourself this; who is the Bible clear about who is doing the deceiving here? - Those who preach holiness, or those who try to say we do not need holiness and just faith alone? Ask yourself WHO is deceived? When you find out the answer, then ask that person WHY he/she is trying to deceive you with empty words.
Seems to me that if holiness were not needed, then surely God would have included in one of these warnings to “not be deceived” or “let no one deceive you” something about not being deceived into believing something other than faith alone, right?!?
