In this video, I explain the process for hiring a business consultant and how to make sure that they have the right consulting skills before you hire them.
When hiring a business growth consultant, there are three questions that every business owner should be asking.
The first question you should ask is, “what is your process for identifying what my business needs are?” Many people don’t know what their business needs are and so they go out and hire someone who looks accomplished without knowing whether or not that person’s skills really match with their business.
The second question is, “who is your typical and most successful client that you work with?” Often, a business consultant may be specialized in a certain area. There are certain consulting skills and knowledge that a consultant will need to know in order to help you. For example, if your business deals with restaurants or food distribution, a consultant will have to have knowledge of the industry in order to provide you with advice.
The third and perhaps most important question is, “what are we going to be doing together and what am I going to be doing on my own?” This question matters because when you hire someone, the consultant is not going to be doing everything. In order to be effective, you’ll have to know what your responsibilities are.
Hiring a business consultant can be incredibly beneficial to the growth of your business. Make sure you ask these three questions before hiring someone so that you know you’re getting the consulting skills that are right for you.
