Taxing a car without a V5 logbook is not so easy. More information here: [ Ссылка ] DVLA makes this the case to try and stop motorist from buying a car that doesn't have all of the paperwork; in particular the V5C logbook.
The main reasons for avoiding a used car that doesn't have all of its documentation include:
It may be a write off,
It may be cloned or stolen.
General notes on taxing a car with no logbook. You need at least one of the following:
V11 car tax reminder
V5C logbook registered in your name
V62 Application form for a new logbook (provided the car is currently registered in your name)
V5C/2 (or V5C/6 on the new style V5) Green new keepers supplement
If you don't have any of these DVLA documents, you are generally unable to tax a vehicle.
Steps to taxing a car without the correct documentation
Firstly, apply for a new V5C via the V62 application form - helpful link: [ Ссылка ]
There's a fee of £25, and the logbook usually arrives within four weeks of application.
While you wait for the new logbook, your new car must be declared as SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification).

SORN takes your car off the road meaning you don't need to have it insured, taxed or MOT'd, but you can't use the car legally on the road unless driving to a pre-booked MOT test. More on MOT testing here: [ Ссылка ]
I don't have any of the documents, I don't want to SORN, and I need to use the car immediately... There is one possibility.
You need to have:
Insurance cover note
MOT certificate (if the car is over three years old)
V62 Logbook application form and a cheque or debit card for £25
Identification (preferably your driver's license)
