One of the privileges of my life has been to be able to see some awesome musicians live, including some who left this earth not long after I got to see them.
In 2011, I was privileged to see DMS at Tokyo Billboard Live, a concert I will NEVER forget. I had seen David Sanborn and Marcu Miller multiple times solo, but I had never seen George Duke and I finally got to see him. And not just him, but together with Sanborn and Miller.
I saw them one week after this performance at the Tokyo Jazz Festival and to be able to see them in a much more intimate setting was just awesome.
And finally seeing George Duke, after missing his legendary '83 performance in Tokyo by sheer bad luck, was just such a privilege. It was absolutely awesome.
Little did I know at the time that it would be my first and only time to see him. What an awesome performance!! Sanborn and Miller are still with us, thankfully, but will always remember seeing them together with George Duke, before he left this earth.
