Starting the second day of our two-day trip in Munnar, we witnessed a mesmerizing sunrise from our balcony, followed by breakfast at the Shri Lakshmi Tiffin Corner. We used this day to visit the places of natural beauty in the environs of Munnar, such as the Munnar Rose Garden, Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Dam and Top Station.
The Munnar Rose Garden has a vast collection of orchids, tulips and a variety of flowering plants which grow at high altitudes. A few kilometres ahead, we saw a wild Nilgiri Tahr, an endangered species, wandering in a dense tea garden. The next stop was Kundala Dam, and it is a gem of a place with its emerald blue waters nestled amongst the green hills of the Nilgiris. The crisp air is refreshing, and a boat ride here is an absolute joy. Just a few minutes' drive ahead is the Echo Point.
Next up was the Kundala Dam, which is tranquil and has dense tree groves surrounding the lake. As we started our ride to Top Station, the roads started getting even curvier and had a higher slope gradient, leading to a steep climb. A few kilometres into the ride, one can begin seeing clouds moving amidst the tea gardens. We stopped alongside the road and enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the tea estates lining the contours of the hills. As we reached Top Station, it was covered under a blanket of clouds and mist. Enjoying a steaming hot cup of noodles is always recommended.
We ended our day, which was full of admiring the abundance of natural beauty surrounding Munnar, by having a fulfilling lunch at the Rapsy Restaurant in Munnar, followed by tea at the Maha Tiffin Corner. It was indeed a day worth remembering.
