Hey guys, it’s Liam from Killer Ink here, and today we’re going to be looking at the Darklab PowerBolt+ from FK Irons.
This powerful battery pack builds upon the original PowerBolt by offering up to 50 percent more power, bumping your work time from 10 hours to around 15.
So let’s have a look, shall we?
The PowerBolt+has a powerful battery inside providing an output range of 5 to 12 Volts, with changes available in 0.5 or 0.1 Volt increments. 0.5 is the default, but it’s simple to change to the more precise measurement by pressing and holding the power button until the voltage-indicator LED turns green.
The lithium-ion battery is charged by USB-C, with charging speeds of 1 Amp when you use the included Darklab USB power cable. PowerBolt battery packs are incredibly popular because of these rapid charging speeds, with high energy density providing reliability and stability throughout the whole process - and with Dynamic Power Path Management, you can even charge the pack as you tattoo.
Voltage and power are controlled by the simple three button interface on the side of the battery pack. The power button turns the machine on and off, and can be used to manage voltage increments, Killswitch connectivity and even to fade or dim the LED if you’re finding it too bright.
You can also activate travel mode – which is a real life-saver for conventions and international travel – by holding the power button until the LED flashes red , which has the additional feature of prolonging the charge.
The other buttons are up and down, and are primarily used to control voltage, which is indicated in the colour of the LED above . The LED’s glow corresponds to the voltage level grid, with a blinking light representing a half increment – so if we’re aiming for 9.5 Volts, we need to press the up button until the LED is flashing pink.
The PowerBolt+ is compatible with FK Irons EXO, Flux and Flux Max tattoo machines, and incredibly easy to attach. Simply holding the machine body and push the battery in while twisting clockwise. To detach, firmly hold the machine, turn the PowerBolt counter-clockwise, and pull it out.
This PowerBolt is fully Bluetooth compatible, enabling you to connect to any Darklab Bluetooth equipment, including the Killswitch foot pedal. The Darklab app allows you to adjust eGive easily across six settings without needing to fiddle with the unit itself, and you’ll also get firmware updates to ensure your battery pack stays future-proofed.
The PowerBolt+ measures in at 72 millimetres high, 30 wide, and 27 millimetres deep. Weighing only 85 grams, it’s a noticeable addition to a pen-style machine without being heavy enough to pull the machine downwards.
Engineered and manufactured in the United States by FK Irons, the PowerBolt+ can be ordered from Killer Ink alone or bundled with the Darklab Killswitch via the link in the description below.
