Emotional impact of cancer
Clem Byard, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Cancer Council, Victoria
Clem Byard is a Clinical Nurse Specialist who works on the 13 11 20 Cancer Information and Support line and in Cancer Prevention at Cancer Council Victoria.
Clem has previously worked at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and at the Centre for Palliative Care at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. Clem has a background in supportive care research and has worked on projects exploring palliative care, survivorship, tele-health patient monitoring, encouraging patient self-care and improving nurse/patient communication.
Clem provided an overview of the emotional impact that a cancer diagnosis can have on a lymphoma patient and their loved ones. He discussed some of the common themes that people experience and provided some tips and resources on how to cope.
