This rig found the Sheepshead for me. I have been fishing for Blackdrum and convicts with a one ounce sinker due to the depth and swiftness of the current in this location. I decided to try a different area and changed to a very small crimp weight while using live shrimp for bait. Not only did I find a new location that holds a lot of fish, but a new way of loading the Autopilot 120 kayak with keeper Sheepshead in this particular area.
I'm glad I decided to make a move because the Black Drum hole wasn't producing. I'd sat in that location for a long time without getting any hits before making the change. Obviously the lighter weight rig wouldn't be ideal for the Black Drum spot because the water depth is twenty five feet deep and the current is swift there. The new rig works perfect though for water depths up to about ten feet where the current isn't overpowering. When I found the Sheepshead they were running in schools in shallow water. The small split shot was the perfect amount of weight to entice the bite.
