(28 Apr 2019) Incumbent Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez told supporters that Socialist party winning the country's general election meant the "future has won and the past has lost."
Sánchez spoke at his party headquarters after the government spokeswoman announced his party received nearly 7 million votes, resulting in 122 seats in the lower house of parliament but falling well short of a majority.
The leader of the United We Can anti-austerity party has already offered Sánchez his desire to form a left-wing coalition government.
