What does the Google Sheets SUMIFS function do? It returns the sum of the numbers in the specified range, based on one or more criterion. The sum range and the criteria range should have the same number of rows and columns.
If a criterion is text, it should be enclosed in quotes.
Here's the format of the Google Sheets SUMIFS function formula:
=SUMIFS(sum_range, criteria_range1, criterion1, [criteria_range2], [criterion2], ...)
Type the function formula in a spreadsheet cell, starting the formula with an equal-to symbol.
SUMIFS is the name of the function.
sum_range is the range with the numbers you want to sum.
criteria_range1 is the first criteria range.
criterion1 is the first criterion, which criteria_range1 should satisfy.
criteria_range2, is optional, and is the second criteria range.
criterion2, is optional, and is the the second criterion, which criteria_range2 should satisfy.
Criteria ranges and criteria subsequent to criteria_range2 and criterion2 are also optional.
Let's look at an example of the SUMIFS function formula:
=SUMIFS(sum_range, criteria_range1, criterion1, [criteria_range2], [criterion2], ...)
Make these assumptions:
sum_range is D2:D6. That is, the numbers you want to sum is in the range D2 to D7.
criteria_range1 is C2:C6.
criterion1 is 34560. It is the customer ID.
criteria_range2 is B2:B6.
criterion2 is "Hard Disk". Note that text criterion has to be enclosed in quotes.
Let plugin these data in the SUMIFS function formula:
=SUMIFS(D2:D6, C2:C6, 34560, B2:B6, "Hard Disk")
If the criteria_range1, C2:C6, contains the number 34560, and criteria_range2, B2:B6, contains the text Hard Disk, the SUMIFS function will return the sum of numbers in the sum_range, D2 to D6.
Say that both the criterion are satisfied, and the corresponding numbers in
the sum_range are 23 and 45.
The SUMIFS function will return 68.
