Monday, October 12th will be a historic day in the City of Chicago—as we welcome the body of St. Maria Goretti.

The 11-year-old Maria Goretti, the youngest canonized saint, died after being stabbed 14 times in an attempted rape. Her last words on her deathbed were of mercy towards her attacker.—“I forgive Allessandro… and I want him to be with me in heaven.” Her converted murderer would later exclaim, “Maria’s forgiveness saved me.”

On Monday, October 12th, Saint John Cantius Church in Chicago’s River West neighborhood will host the sacred remains for a full 24 hours. A special Latin Mass in the Extraordinary Form in honor of St. Maria Goretti will be offered by Bishop Joseph Perry.
