Head gardener at Lowther Castle and Gardens Andrea Brunsendorf picks a plant she loves for early spring, Cornus mas Cornelia cherry.
You can use it in a garden that is exposed to cold, windy, unpredictable and very long springs. It is a very hardy plant and can take up to temperatures of -20. It comes into bloom around the end of February.
