How unmarried moms can get full custody is not really an appropriate question. In Michigan, there is already a presumption in a non-marital union that the mom has full custody. It is not really the same with married couples. With married couples, the presumption is both parents have custody. In a non-marital union, the father may have to file a motion for custody. The father may share legal custody or at best parenting time. Unless the mother is declared unfit the presumption in a non-marital union is to have the child be with the mother for the stability and safety of the child. Until proven otherwise the unmarried mom gets full custody.
