Eowyn is one of the absolute best examples of powerful, virtuous femininity in fiction. (Certainly better than almost any modern "strong female lead"). She is loyal, caring, and loving. And yet, she also struggles. Eowyn struggles with fatalism, with the lack of hope, with her desire for a quick and glorious death. Rather than trust in the strength of others and hope for a better future, she would rather rush to meet the bloody end she believes to be inevitable. Her story is one of the renewal of hope, with some incredible deeds done along the way.
