For centuries, artists have been using their creativity and platform to raise awareness, protest, and call for social or political change. Yet, at the same time, art has become less accessible, only to be seen in museums or galleries. BMW Foundation Responsible Leader Hanif Kureshi aims to change this by making art more accessible to a larger audience in India.
As the co-founder and artistic director of St+art India Foundation, Hanif Kureshi brings Indian and international artists to showcase their work in the art districts and experimental exhibitions in Indian cities. Within eight years, St+art India Foundation has organized many art exhibitions and worked with over 500 murals and six art districts, including the Lodhi Colony, India's first public art district.
“I wish I was born in the Lodhi Colony right now. Growing up looking at the murals and these would change my perspective of the art and the world as well.” – Hanif Kureshi
