The War on Women: Sex, Politics and the New Middle East
This conversation with writers Mona Eltahawy and Karim Sadjadpour, who take on one of the region's most pressing -- if often unspoken -- subjects in new articles for Foreign Policy's first-ever Sex Issue.
In "Why Do They Hate Us?" Eltahawy, a writer and activist who grew up in the region and was recently assaulted near Tahrir Square, describes the litany of abuses faced by women, even in revolutionary Egypt. In "The Ayatollah Under the (Bed)sheets," Sadjadpour tells us that, to really understand Iran, we better pay less attention to their nuclear aspirations and a lot more to their leaders' strange sexual obsessions.
Drinks will follow the discussion.
