One of the primary questions adoptive parents are asked from acquaintances is, "Aren't the children going to be confused in an open adoption?" The four parents in this video admit that yes, certain things are confusing, as are many other things in life. One parent says that his child wasn't confused about what open adoption was, nor the relationships in his life, but was confused as to why everyone didn't have birth families. The other parents with older children also express that their children understand their family dynamic and embrace the fact that there are more people in their lives to love them, and that's never a negative thing. As children grow, it's important that adoptive parents continue to keep the opportunity for conversation and questions open and that honesty is always a part of the equation so that children can grow in their understanding and acceptance of their unique family dynamic.
