A Wehrmacht motorized infantry convoy stopped in a field was spotted by Soviet recon, and a rocket battery of 4 Katyushas engage the last known coordinates from about 4km away.
Unfortunately for the Germans, the convoy is caught by surprise while troops were disembarking their vehicles and have nowhere to escape the wide area bombardment.
The Katyusha was and still is one of the most famous Russian military weapons. It consisted of 14-48 rail-mounted rockets on a folding frame mounted to a ZIS or Studebaker truck. While it's success rate during WWII was questionable due to its inaccurate unguided rockets, it was highly effective as a saturation bombardment weapon: In less than 10 seconds, a battery of 4 Katyushas could fire the equivalent of roughly 72 conventional artillery guns. (Wikipedia) Saturation bombing is not always an effective method, but perhaps most importantly, Katyushas had psychological importance for both the Russians and the Germans.
This video represents what I think an engagement might have looked like.
The simulator is not the same as real life, however, this is a fairly realistic representation.
