July 4th is the Independence Day of the United States. This date marks the day on which the United States signed the Declaration of Independence of the British Empire in 1776, although it was not until 1783 that a hard fight against the English was ended in which Spain was a key ally for the victory of the 13 colonies.
In this new video from the series "Did You Know..." we explain in one minute Spain's contribution to the U.S. War of Independence. Spain helped U.S. troops with money, weapons, medicine and ships and sent more than 12,000 Hispanic soldiers who fought against the English army. In addition, the successful military campaigns in the Mississippi of Malaga's Bernardo de Gálvez, winner of the Battle of Pensacola, were vitally important for the United States to achieve final victory.
This video from The Hispanic Council's "Did You Know..." initiative has the collaboration of the Fundación Consejo España- USA and Iberdrola.
