In 1216 King John lost all his wealth including his crown, swords and family jewels in a trecherous crossing when the tide swept in suddenly and buried everything. Everything and everyone was lost including the horses, soldiers and carts. John who had ridden on ahead with a few of his men narrowly missed being swept away too.
