Did you notice that in Dark Souls II there is, in Drangleic Castle, an interesting painting. What is striking is that walking towards this painting causes curse build-up. Meaning that players have to keep their distance to avoid becoming cursed. At first glance this might appear as a mere gameplay trick. However, the painting actually depicts Nashandra, the queen of Drangleic, who the player hasn’t encountered yet. It is only later in the game that players are able to find her, and despite the fact that she looks like a ‘fair lady’, she is actually one of the main antagonists of the game.
