Something to smile about! Ice queen Anna Wintour FINALLY drops her frosty facade as she is made a Dame at Buckingham Palace ceremony (but her sunnies are still firmly in place).
Her poker face and icy glare have earned her a reputation as one of the steeliest women in fashion.
But Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue, let her frosty facade drop as she was made a Dame Commander by the Queen at Buckingham Palace today.
The formidable magazine chief, 67, smiled as she posed for photographs after receiving the honour in recognition of her services to fashion and journalism.
Speaking afterwards, she revealed how she thanked the Queen for Prince Philip's 'inspirational' service following his retirement from royal duties yesterday.
Ms Wintour said: 'I congratulated her on Prince Philip's service because obviously that's so remarkable and such an inspiration to us all.'
The mother-of-two, who was joined by her glamorous 29-year-old daughter Bee Shaffer, also told how the Queen had struggled to attach the medal to her pink Chanel coat during the ceremony.
'She couldn't find where to put the brooch,' she said.
Ever stylish, Ms Wintour wore the calf-length coat with nude pumps and finished the look with a pair of signature oversized black sunglasses.
However she adhered to royal protocol and removed the shades as she received the damehood, offering the public a rare glimpse of her eyes.
Born in London, Ms Wintour is the daughter of of Charles Wintour, the famed then-editor of the London Evening Standard, and philanthropist Elinor Wintour.
Her journalism career started at Harpers & Queen magazine in 1970. In 1983 she joined Condé Nast as creative director of American Vogue, beginning her relationship with the iconic brand.
Ms Wintour returned to London to serve as editor of British Vogue between 1985 and 1987 before rejoining American Vogue in her current position in 1988.
In March 2013 Ms. Wintour was named the artistic director of Condé Nast.
