Professor Li-chuan Ou, Department of Chinese Literature, NTU
This course starts from ancient mythology, following the main historical trends in the development of Chinese literature. We talk about the literary activities of the pre-Qin, Han, Wei, Jin, Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing as the flesh and blood of the history of Chinese literature. This part of the course is a major undertaking. We also use this overview as a basis for interpreting various literary phenomena, including the formation and development of literary styles and trends such as shi, ci, qu, fu, prose, and the novel. At the same time, these phenomena are related to the spirit of each historical period and its collective social consciousness.
