(19 Oct 2017) Sebastian Kurz's People's Party was confirmed as the winner of the Austrian parliamentary elections when the final results were released on Thursday evening.
Austrian Foreign Minister Kurz, who is on track to become Europe's youngest head of government, took 31.5 percent of the votes.
In second place came Chancellor Christian Kern's Social Democrats with 26.9 percent, followed closely by the Freedom Party with 26 percent.
The Green vote share didn't reach the required 4 percent threshold to receive parliamentary seats, gaining only 3.8 percent of the votes.
Following the announcement of the final results, President Alexander Van der Bellen is going to officially task Sebastian Kurz and his People's Party with forming a new government on Friday.
