For our #WeatherWednesday we have a picture of an anvil over Tennessee I took a few weeks ago⛈. The front of the anvil can be determined where the clouds are flatter (the left side of the photo). The top of the anvil will flatten out when it hits the next layer of the atmosphere.
The back of the anvil is formed from warm, moist air in an updraft. And the towards the front of the anvil is where cold air is pushed down in a downdraft. This is where you might find heavy rain too🌧.
