The media can ensure that there is no imitation of suicides by treating them with restraint and responsibility - this is particularly relevant for media coverage of suicides by celebrities. This is the central result of an international study headed by Thomas Niederkrotenthaler from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the Centre for Public Health of MedUni Vienna, which has now been published in the top journal British Medical Journal.
