During Former President Kuffour's era, we remember the completion of the Nkawkaw-Obomeng Road as a significant infrastructure development project. It was an important road connecting the Kwahu Ridge to the Afram Plains. The road was financed by the government through the Road Fund and was constructed by Top International Ghana Ltd, a Chinese construction company.
President Kuffour, on Saturday 4th August 2007, cut the sod for the reconstruction of the 6.5 kilometers Nkawkaw-Obomeng road, which cost 27.5 billion cedis. The project aimed to reduce traveling time and open up the Afram Plains, as it was expected to become the country's breadbasket with the implementation of the Millennium Challenge Accounts.
The then Deputy Minister of Transportation, Mr. Magnus Opare Asamoah, mentioned that the ridge roads would be expanded to six meters wide on the ascending and eight meters wide after descending, enhancing its capacity and safety.
The construction of the Nkawkaw-Obomeng road was considered crucial by the government and the people of Kwahu due to its significant socio-economic importance to the area.
As a responsible media house (Agoo 96.9fm) observing the road in recent times, we have noticed that the road, which was constructed about 15 years ago, is gradually deteriorating.
Some may even argue that it has been totally destroyed, but the situation remains manageable for now.
It is concerning to see the road's condition worsen over time, especially given its initial significance in improving transportation and connectivity in the area.
The news team (Agoo FM) hopes that the necessary steps are taken to address the road's deterioration and restore it to a safe and efficient state for the benefit of the people and the economic activities in Kwahu
