Learning through reading books is great because you're getting two benefits at the same time – you read something interesting and learn something new, and you learn a language. And the only way to improve your comprehension is through a lot of input. For language learning purposes I always recommend reading non-fiction because it's much easier to understand in the foreign language which you're just learning.
