Entering its 7th year, the Hong Kong Art Week (HKAW) 2019 continued to present a collective front of art galleries together with various facets of the art industry in one of the biggest art festivals in Hong Kong.
The ten-day HKAW kicked off with a blast with an Opening Cocktail Party on the rooftop of the rising creative complex H Queen's, after which art lovers relished in opening receptions, artist talks and live performances in Central, Sheung Wan and Sai Ying Pun galleries on the Art Gallery Night. A guided tour brought visitors to the emerging art hub on the South Side where galleries in Wong Chuk Hang and Tin Wan served up art with refreshments during the South Island Art Brunch.
The flagship programme of the week, the two-day Art Symposium - themed “Back to Basics: Restructuring the Future” - brought together a roster of over 20 art professionals from the local, regional and international art scene, featuring four panel discussions and a screening of the documentary Herb & Dorothy. The Symposium ended on a high note, with a concluding keynote speech delivered by M+’s Museum Director Suhanya Raffel.
