This is something I get asked A LOT! How do you make those little things like herbs and spices that we pay out the nose for at the grocery store everyday? Well, one by one I'm going to show you how to do it at home! You may remember a few weeks back I did an episode on how to make your own Garlic Salt, well today, I'm going to show you how to make your own Onion Powder at home. Best part, you don't even need a Food Dehydrator! Big shout out to Big Lich and Patrick Patrikios for providing music for this episode! Recipes: Onion Powder
Onions (as many as you want), Time
Start by chopping an Onion into small, thin pieces. (It doesn't have to be pretty) Next, spread the Onions out in a single layer on a Cookie Sheet or a Cake Pan. Now, dehydrate your Onions by baking them at your ovens lowest temperature. if you can get your oven to 170F then the process will take about 3-4 hours, or at 200F about 90min - 2 hours. Once the Onions are completely dried and crispy (Note: They may turn Pink or even darken slighly around the edges, this is normal) place them in a Spice Grinder, Coffee Grinder, or Pestle and Mortar and grind into a fine powder. You can even is the back of a Spoon for this process. Finally, store your Onion Powder in an air tight jar and it should keep for about a year! Enjoy!
